About
the
Garden.

Urban gardening (it could be argued) is a trendy thing these days. Especially here in Philadelphia, where vacant lots abound, a multitude of environmentally conscious, artistic, idealistic, and otherwise well-meaning citizens are seizing property, turning up the soil and putting it to good use. We put ourselves right in the thick of this group of city dwellers who hope to see our city grow healthier and more beautiful by the minute. And whether it’s “trendy” or not, we offer no apology for our effort. We think it’s amazing. The idea for this garden started not too long ago because the guy cutting the grass at the Berean Institute was trying to work himself out of a job. But the Girard Garden, in its short existence, has already proven to be much more than a self-sustaining lawn care option. We’ve met new neighbors, we’ve watched plants sprout from seeds for the first time in my life, and we have the chance to create something beautiful where before there was nothing. We can only hope that the community and beauty continue to grow on our little corner of North Philadelphia. We’re just in the beginning of our little garden, and we hope it will keep growing. We welcome more neighbors to be a part. Stop by and say hello.
